Old Providence McBean Lagoon Natural National Park, Providencia and Santa Catalina

The park was created in 1995 with the aim to preserve the different ecosystems of the archipelago, such as mangrove forests, coral formations, sea grass, and dry forests. It also protects important breeding grounds for local and migratory birds and provides space for ecological recreation and environmental education.

The Old Providence McBean Lagoon National Park is located on the island of Providencia, which is part of the Department of the San Andres Archipelago, Providencia and Santa Catalina. Specifically, it is located on the northeast coast of the island, between Maracibo Hill and Smith Bay, occupying an area of approximately 1,485 hectares, 1,390 of which are a marine portion. It is part of the core areas of the Biosphere Reserve and can be found within the protected Seaflower marine reserve.
