Botanical Garden, San Andres, Colombia

The Botanical Garden is an academic bet of the National University of Colombia, managed by the San Andres Caribbean Main Office. With an area that covers 79.718 m², it has 423 plant species, 18,500 plants and has been open to the public since 2008.

The Botanical garden is an area of conservation, research, education and entertainment, recreating structurally five strategic areas: 1) the glossology garden; 2) the viewpoint and its permanent exhibition areas; 3) the main trail with a representation of the ecosystems and the plants according to their usefulness and four lots emblematic of  important ssocio-culturalpecies; 4) over six acres of preserved and conserved forest, which contains nature trails ending in a turtle nursery; 5) an administrative and research area with laboratories consisting of herbal, arthropofauna, microscopy and area plants, all ending at the nursery. This Garden is a vital space for birds who are residents and visitors of flora and fauna, taking advantage of the richness and conservation. Colombia is one of the few mega-diverse countries and the first with 1,885 bird species.

We are committed to the conservation of the flora and fauna of the Seaflower Biosphere Reserve of the San Andrés Archipelago, Providencia and Santa Catalina, Colombian Caribbean.

Recreational Opportunities Available

The Botanical Garden of San Andrés offers guided tours in Spanish, English or Creole. We also offer courses, workshops, conferences and recreational activities, as well as permanent exhibitions. We have two laboratories for research and an herbarium.

Seasons Accessible

The Botanical Garden of San Andrés is open everyday from 9:00 am - 5 pm.

Fees (if any)

Entrance fees vary by age group and number of people with fees ranging between $2,000 - $10,000. Children under 11 year of age: $2,000; Adults: $10,000; Senior Citizens: $3,000. Other activities may have additional fees.

Since its inception, the Botanical Garden of San Andres has been developing diverse educational, leisure, recreational, cultural and research activities that contribute to fostering the use and proper management of natural resources while taking advantage of the space as a learning tool in the archipelago of San Andres, Providencia and Santa Catalina's Seaflower Biosphere Reserve, Caribbean Colombia.
